First Love 初恋

I finally finished watching this beautiful yet heart-wrenching series. It took me probably three days to finish it even though it only had 9 episodes. Each episode was a bit too much to handle. Some extremely adorable while others were just heartbreaking. I literally screamed and cried in each episodes.

The title is 'First Love' but it's not only a story about first love, but also about dreams and growth.

Both the stories when they were young and older were great. But I think I especially love the start of their relationship up until the accident occured.

They looked so naive, free and hopeful.

They really made me wish I had what they had. But I'm old now. I will never get to experience that young love. At that age, you don't have much worries. As you grow older, there are just too many things to consider when you get into a relationship.

When she had the accident and lost her memory. It broke me as much as it wrecked Harumichi.

When she lost her memory it was just too heartbreaking for me. I feel so bad for poor Harumichi. I know it's partly his fault that she got into the accident, but he has been such a kind and loyal boyfriend. I wish Yae's mother didn't make that decision. And I was especially mad at Harumichi at one point because he burnt all the letters he sent to Yae. I was hoping he had kept it. But from his perspective, I guess that was the right thing to do. He was mad and he felt he needed to move on.

And then they met again as adult but Yae still had not regain her memory. My heart ached seeing Harumichi bottling up everything. Hiding the fact that they were each other's first love. The whole journey or process of the two of them getting to know each other for the second time was adorable, frustrating at times but overall strongly tied by fate I guess. The whole point of the story is also related to fate, which is something I wanted to believe in as well.

Did you see that longing look? Ugh. Also Harumichi is a great character. He was not the best student but somehow managed to get into the same high school as his crush. He was really kind, considerate, supportive and loving to Yae. He was pretty immature then which lead to Yae's accident. But he grew into one fine man. Although he could have ended his relationship with his fiancee in a much pleasant way. Other than that, I really love him. Not perfect but the best guy you could ask for.

The ending. I was worried that we wouldn't get a happy ending. Thank goodness we got the most satisfying happy ending. The ending location was majestic. The beauty was out of this world. It was perfect. I give this series a rating of 11 out of 10. It was emotionally taxing but worth it. I would watch this again maybe someday with my partner if I ever get one.

Lastly, taken from the series,

"Living in such an uncertain world, who is that person I want to meet again?"

I don't have an answer yet.
